Temburong's Hidden Treasures Exposed

Bandar Seri Begawan - Members of the Photographic Society of Brunei Darussalam unleashed their creativity in taking pictures of the Temburong District to promote it as an exotic area with unexpected treasures. Their adventure started last Sunday and ends today.

Eighteen shutterbugs joined the Explore Temburong activity. The Brunei Tourism Unit, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources will collect their quality pictures for future promotion.

Staff of Brunei Tourism Unit in Temburong and the Temburong District Office, which provided a bus joined them.

The shutterbugs arrived in Temburong last Sunday morning after a boat journey from the capital passed through a network of rivers and channels behind Brunei Bay.

As they coursed through the dense mangrove islands enroute to Bangar, they captured on film some of the wildlife they encountered.

After a briefing session at the Temburong Tourist - Information Centre, they toured the district by bus, explored the town and local markets and appreciated the preserved rainforest and the blend of traditional lifestyle with modem facilities.

The land journey to Batang Duri opened their eyes to the fusion of traditional Brunei lifestyles, housing and cultivation with newer technologies.

At the Batang Duri mini zoo, the lensmen filmed the secretive rainforest animals. Temburong has been able to maintain many traditions, including a way-of-life where the natural environment is protected in national parks and forest reserves.

Riding longboats along the Temburong River, they passed through the rainforest and local longhouses and were introduced to forest life and rural lifestyles.

At 5.30 yesterday morning, the cameramen walked to Bukit Patoi Recreational Park, one of the jewels in Brunei's forest crown. It is one of the few untouched forests easily accessible, and offers visitors the chance to see the tropical forest in all its glory within a single day's journey from Bandar Seri Begawan.

The forest is almost completely pristine and two of the main types are represented -Mixed Dipterocarp Forest on the slopes and Health (or Kerangas) forests on the flat Summit. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin

because the bridge would cross international waters, and that's a no-no considering that bridge would block off the Royal Brunei Navy, Limbang boats and others.

Temburong is an isolated landmass.

We cannot build a bridge because:

-the pathway is not straight; we'd be crisscrossing into Malaysian waters and construction of structures in international waters is forbidden, unless one of those countries is an island and the bridge is for access (eg Johore and Singapore).

-Temburong isn't an oil field, the investment would bring little reward to either side

-The time and finance required is needed elsewhere

-The idea of a bridge seems to hint that we are making a territorial claim over all the water under it. We cannot do that, as part of that water is Malaysian coastline, which would make them claim the bridge instead.

haha...nah, i dunno about that... but it would be cool if anyone in the forum did.. if there really is an Intelligence Agency in the country.

I doubt it, though. Intelligence without action is just like a great machine that cannot be switched on coz there is no switch button.
