Showcase Of Local Cuisines At Belait Ramadhan Stalls

Bandar Seri Begawan - During the month of Ramadhan, people in the Belait District take the opportunity to savour a variety of delicious traditional cuisines to break their fast at the Ramadhan stalls or "Gerai Tudung Saji" in Belait, and at the "Pasar Baru Lorong Tiga" in Seria.

At these places, the Belait Municipal Board has also provided a mini 'surau' for the convenience of the Muslims.

An official from the municipal board told the Bulletin that the demand for Ramadhan stalls has increased this year in view of the increasing number of stall applicants.

He said a total of 68 lots have been allocated for these stalls this year in Kuala Belait and Seria.

Besides cooked food and drinks, these stalls also sell other goods such as clothes, home decorative items, potted plants and flowers.

He said stalls which are selling ready cooked food are mostly found inside markets while foods that are cooked on the spot, such as grilled and barbecued chicken and fish, are located around the market area.

He said Ramadhan stalls are not only visited by Muslims who are observing the fasting month, but also attract nonMuslims as well as foreign tourists who also relish the assortment of foods on display.

The stalls in Kuala Belait and Seria are open from 2 pm to 6pm for the duration of the fasting month.

A Hari Raya Bazaar will also be held and it will be participated by associations as well as private companies.

The bazaar will cater to the needs of local residents who are preparing for the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations, and at the same time to encourage Bruneians to support the local economy by doing their shopping within the country. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
